The river is a large natural watercourse, usually fresh water. From the source to the mouth of another river, lake or sea, rivers receive water from tributaries and its flow creates riverbed. In some cases, the water simply flowed through the ground or dries up completely, and not arriving to another water body. Smaller rivers may have different names: flash floods, stream, water currents, honey, rivers, tributaries.
The river is part of the hydrological cycle. The water in the river generally collected from precipitation through surface runoff, groundwater recharge, springs, and the release of water stored in natural ice and glaciers. The study of the river is called potamologija.
