Short-winged Green Grasshopper

Dichromorpha viridis is a species of slant-faced grasshoppers that is commonly found in North America. This a male variant of the grasshopper. Females are generally a solid green or brown. Males generally have green or brown stripes on their backs.

While these grasshoppers are generally known for short wings, long winged individual do occur and some are capable of flight. Given that, the short wing trait is dominant to the long wing trait.

I find these guys all over my yard. Caught him on a rusting piece of equipment and thought it would be cool to take a pic of him.

Pretty interesting stuff isn't it?
