In 2011, I had the distinct privilege of being selected to visit 3 of China's provinces to speak to hoteliers and community leaders about how social media was changing the digital landscape globally. Since that time, several of the Chinese social networks I researched for my speech have come and gone, where Facebook and Twitter continue to be popular in China to this day [firewall or not].

Must be more of a challenge to be socially active in the internet if you have to go around this firewall all the time..

I've spend two weeks in ChengDu and yeah - the human value is not very high in there :( Eat, work and sleep. And don't get ideas from the big bad internet. No wonder so many want to go abroad...

Been in China last year. A really different country even for me, being a lot in south east Asia.

Great article! And you just reminded me that I NEVER seem to come across anyone from China on Facebook and Twitter ...amazing that a government can censor like that...
