On our way from Newcastle where our ferry arrived we drove alongside Hadrian´s Wall to our cottage near Dumfries. The wall was built in 122 AD by the Roman Empire to defend them against Celtic Tribes. It was 117.5 km (73.0 mi) long reaching all the way from the west coast to the east coast. Today there is not much left of the stone structure, since a lot of it was used for building houses after the Romans left.
