The fortress, Castiglione del Lago

Frederick II, Duke of Swabia had the fortress built in the 13th century as part of the imperial deface system that crossed Italy.
The fortress was built in an irregular pentagonal plan with a single 30m tall triangular keep. Tow of the four towers were rebuilt in a circular form in the late 16th century so that they could hold up better against a cannon attack.
