La basilique de Notre-Dame de Fourvière, the French name for the most beautiful church I have ever been to in my life, was built in 1884 on the place of an old Roman forum (because Lyon used to belong to the Roman Empire). It is dedicated to Virgin Mary, who is a celebrated protector of Lyon since the black death that spread through Europe in 1643. It was designed in Romanesque and Byzantine architecture and it took patient artists and builders 12 years finish this wonderful piece of glory. A big mosaic.
