Purple Flowers with Sunset

Check out my blog at www.fotoinusgrobler.com

Purple flowers backlit by the sunset. This photo was taken in September 2013 in a vineyard in Stellenbosch. The thin petals light up when backlit making the flowers glow.

To use this backlighting technique you need to position the camera so that the sun's light is coming from behind the flower. The sun needs to be low in order to do this. Therefore sunrise and sunset works best. Another important thing is to get down to the flower's level.

This photo was taken in September 2013 with a Canon 5D MkIII and Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM.

Camera settings: f/13.0, 1/6 seconds and ISO 50
