All too often, the well-educated Deaf people seeking to become teachers are passed over in favor of those with less credentials. Why? Simple: the school administration wants prospective teachers who CAN speak, regardless of credentials. They feel it would be too much hassle to get an interpreter for the highly qualified deaf teachers, hence they would rather choose those who are not well suited to work with the deaf children and hope for the best, which is unfair to the deaf teachers AND unfair to the deaf students as well.
