Fortress Kastel is located in Banja Luka and is one of the oldest buildings in Bosnia and Herzegovina. There is little information about who and when built Kastel but according to many estimates are likely Kastel fortress built by the Romans in the 3rd century, although some argue is that the fortress was built later, ie. in the 9th century BC.
The fortress from all sides surrounded by stone walls, where they erected a watchtower and loopholes, which shows that in the past was very strong military fortress.
Geological excavations of various items and money in the city, which they minister Romans, reinforce the idea that the fortress was located on the site of a Roman military settlement Castra. Located in the border zone between the former Dalmatia and Pannonia, Castro belonged to Dalmatia, and its northernmost part.
