End of Copyright War? Macaque Selfie from Indonesia

A selfie of a macaque in Indonesia taken by using the equipment belonging to David Slater, British nature photographer. This photo was the centre of a copyright infringement issue when Wikipedia took Slater's photo and made it a public domain on Wikipedia commons. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monkey_selfie

The question was who is the copyright holder since the monkey took the photo and non-humans cannot claim the copyright ownership. Slater still claims he holds the rights.
